But there are some server problems on the site. Well, because so many people tried to register, the site went down. Yes, that's how popular it is. Or how popular becoming a writer is. We have some Orlando Writing League members participating this year and we'll be gather for our usual writing events. Nothing beats the feeling of vindication. All that hard work you put into writing, crafting, and editing your work, then the anxiety of sending your baby off into the cold, cruel world and praying for the best. It's a little like having kids, isn't it? Of all the possible places to submit to, contests have been around as long as publishers have. They're a way to weed out the weakest and support the strongest. But are writing contests really worth all the hype? |

Details on this one are a bit tricky to track down because of the design of the website. The deadline is on a different page from the rules. So to summarize, this is a contest for unpublished novels of any genre. The contest does not offer different categories for different genres and does not offer critiques of submitted works, with the exception of the top 5 manuscripts. The entry fee is $39.00 and the deadline for 2009 is March 2. Details: http://www.fccj.org/wf/contests/rules/novel.html |
